A new custom home on Vero’s Central Beach is a charming cottage with traditional elements that make you feel right at home.
We visited a new home by custom home builder Dennis Matherne of Mathern Construction in Vero’s Central Beach area.
I had the privilege of touring this lovely Central Beach home custom built in 2012 just a week or so after the moving trucks had pulled out of the driveway for the last time. Even though the homeowners had just moved in, there was an easy, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. That quality may have been summoned due to the open floor plan of the home, or more likely the homeowner’s collections which fill the household with love and personality.
Upon entering you are greeted by a collection of old barn keys strikingly displayed at the bottom of the staircase. The homeowners tell me they have been collecting the keys for years and each one has its own unique story of where it was found. At the entry, there is also a collection of pottery resting at the base of stairs that lead to the second floor bedrooms. To the left we immediately enter a cozy den that comfortably houses a library of books mixed with folk art and interesting decorative objects collected over time. Four chairs upholstered in a pale pink surrounding an ottoman make this room perfect for reading, relaxing or watching TV. The walls throughout are a pale off white with a hint of yellow, a perfect backdrop to the white details of the woodwork throughout.
The Dining Room features Windsor arm chairs around a farm style table. An enchanting candle burning fixture hangs above the table and a beautiful, simple corner hutch stands tall in one corner. The Dining Area is anchored by an oriental area rug.
A breakfast area graciously opens to the living room, gracefully balancing the kitchen and dining room on the opposite side of the home. A stately farm style desk sits elegantly between the living area and breakfast area separating the two.
The light and airy living room is flooded with natural light from all sides. There are three sets of French doors each set framed by soft sheer drapery panels that lead out to a patio. In addition there are windows on either side of the room adding to the vast amount of natural light. Despite the openness each individual area blends seamlessly while maintaining a distinct purpose and feel.
