9 Ideas on How to Hide Your TV

9 Ideas on How to Hide Your TV

How Many Ways Are There to Hide a TV?

Sometimes it takes creative ideas to come up with a solution to a problem.   Here are a number of ideas on how to hide a TV in your house.

1. Folding Screen

This is a project I recently completed in Rancho Sante Fe, California where I had the challenge of hiding the TV in the Formal Living Room.  If you want to read all about where I found the screen that was eventually modified to cover the TV check out the blog post I wrote on Jill Shelvin Design here.  There were a number of issues that prohibited a simple slide open up a cover.  Oh my gosh, everything was going against me.  Windows, low ceilings, mantel, you name it – it was a problem.  But, in the end I think it turned out A-mazing!  What do you think?

While I was searching the internet for ideas and concepts to hide the TV these are just a few I came across and wanted to share.

But here are a few more images of the Formal Living Room of my Rancho Sante Fe, California remodel project.

9 Ideas for Hiding Your TV in the Living Room

Originally the screen that ended up covering the TV was a standing folding screen.  I had it modified and hinged to cover the TV when not in use.

There are now three panels.  Two panels swing to the left with a special hinge while the third single panel swings to the right.  This was done so the window would not be covered when the TV is in use.

This formal Living Room is Large!  It has high ceilings with wood beams and it is Long and Narrow.  It also needed to function in several different ways.  It needed to be an entertaining room, formal as well as informal.  It needed to house a bar, And to be dog friendly.

Behind the chairs that face the TV is a custom-designed and built standing bar.

From simple to custom built-in screens there are a  number of ways to hide the TV

This is a great idea for a formal Living Room and somewhat the inspiration for the idea I had for using a screen in my project.

To achieve this look you will have to either have a screen that already folds in quarters or make one.

2. Custom Built Sliding Screen

Here a built-in was created with sliding floor to ceiling slat panels that move to expose or cover the TV.

This is another example of a moving panel in a built in that has a moving screen that works seamlessly to cover the TV when you don’t want to see it and is a decorative feature when you do.

This is another example of a sliding panel which I think looks great when closed but off when open.  I don’t care much for the asymmetry of the look.

Sleek and sophisticated!  Love how seamless this custom built-in is.  It takes Expert craftsmanship to create something so simple to look so good.  However, this look is limited as it is Very contemporary. But you could take the idea and run with it for any style.

Another example of sliding panels, this ENTIRE wall had to have been thought out with great detail and planned perfectly to execute.

3. Mirrored Panels

I like how this folding mirror looks, but again this was thought out as you can see there is a niche in the wall to accommodate the depth of the TV and in addition, they have built a frame to hold the mirror as well.

4.  Pop Up Cover

I have used this fold up panel system for clients in the past.

Admittedly, their idea not mine as I am not a big fan of the open look, however, if you rarely watch TV this would be a good way to cover and hide the TV.

5. Custom Integrated

This is another project of mine that I did for a client in New York.  I custom designed the entire wall to create a seamless look and worked with the builder’s cabinet maker to create.

So there you have it a few different ideas to get your creative juices flowing if you need to hide a TV in your home.

Love to see what you all come up with, so please share any projects you’ve done.
